Workshop 4: Additional Facilitation Tools for Multidisciplinary Consilience

Organizers: Fefferman, Blum, Bourouiba, Candan, Ryan, Strand

Topic: The purpose of this workshop was to provide additional tools for communication and collaboration among diverse, multidisciplinary teams.

# Participants: 19

Report:

This workshop focused on developing a comfortable rapport for building a shared vision. Now that the project teams (and full Institute personnel) had gotten to know each other a little as researchers and people, we took this time to discuss in more depth the challenges that naturally arise when working to formulate and solve multidisciplinary questions, requiring deep multidisciplinary collaboration, but that are traditionally conceptualized and solved very differently in different fields. We here focused on the path forward and methodologies to foster the building of a shared vision and collaborative goals. There was discussion of three additional potential concrete tools to support team integration and communication: 1) reflection polls, 2) sense votes, and 3) gradients of agreement. We discussed how each of these tools provided different elements for full-team engagement and collaboration.
