Workshop 1: Research Project Team Selections and Planned Project Team Organization

Organizers: Fefferman, Blum, Bourouiba, Candan, Ryan, Strand

Topic: The purpose of this workshop was to kick-off the PREEMPT project, discuss the general planning, establish the project team, and create document templates.

# Participants: 23

Report:

This workshop focused on launching six research project teams as independent endeavors, but using a shared protocol and framework for multidisciplinary research collaboration. We introduced a shared project management platform, ClickUp, and the design of collaboration/communication tools for the teams to use: a team charter (to establish norms for 1) how each team would work together, 2) what each team member's professional goals are that could be enhanced by the team, as well as 3) ways the team agreed to communicate- email addresses, phone numbers, preferred times, etc.) and a team dictionary (designed to encourage members of the interdisciplinary teams to record terms and definitions that may be unknown to other disciplines on the team or may have a different meaning or interpretations in different fields).

We collaborated to adopt a shared, flexible platform and protocols that would accommodate the diverse needs of the different teams, while maintaining a coherent Institute framework for interrogating multidisciplinary challenges together.
